Good health is a boon for every living creature and its consciousness and maintenance is mandatory. Entering the era of 21st century, it’s full of modern and scientific advancement and technology, experiences, opportunities and competition. But while rushing for success and progress whole world cease to think of their health and well-being. ‘Health’ in a layman term is being physically fit whereas experts believe in WHO’s definition which explain as “Health is a state of complete physical, mental and social well-being and not merely the absence of disease or infirmity". However, WHO’s definition sometimes gets criticized because being healthy is not a state; it is a way of life. Moreover, it’s a process. Keeping your physical health in check requires you to have proper diet every day. You cannot have nutritious food for two days a week and hog on junk for the rest and still be healthy. Similarly, you cannot sleep for 24 hours on the same day and stay awake for the next three days. It is essential to maintain a healthy lifestyle to stay in good shape and enjoy good health. In addition to having a rich diet full of nutrients one must also have adequate sleep and exercise daily to maintain health. It is also essential to surround oneself with people who bring in positivity and encourage you to bring out the best in you rather than pulling you down. Besides being socially active and maintaining good relations with people, it is also essential to look within. Squeeze in some time each day to sit all by yourself to understand your needs better and take your life in the right direction. This is a crucial step in keeping your overall health intact. If we see the present scenario more than half of the world seems to be living an unhealthy life. Maternal Health, Neonatal and Child Health, Communicable diseases, HIV, TB, Malaria, Cholera, Influenza, Meningitis, Sexually Transmitting Diseases, Non communicable diseases and mental health, Substance Abuse, Road Traffic Injuries, Sexual and Reproductive Health, Mortality from Environmental Pollution, Child Malnutrition, Drinking Water, Sanitation and Hygiene, these are the global health related challenges. In 2015, more than 16 000 children under age five died every day. 45% of deaths among children under age five occur during the first four weeks of life. In 2015, an estimated 2.6 million babies were stillborn. 1.3 million deaths in 2015 were attributable to hepatitis. Noncommunicable diseases (NCDs) caused 37% of deaths in low-income countries in 2015, up from 23% in 2000. Injuries claimed nearly 5 million lives in 2015. Ischemic heart disease and stroke killed 15 million people in 2015 (source: WHO data). Even Nepal have the similar health related issues. Health and well-being are a high priority in current health and social care provision. The necessity of promoting health and well-being is due to the drastically increasing trend of morbidity and mortality from health problems, illness and chronic disease around the world that’s the reason for emerging health consciousness globally leading for Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) explaining “GOOD HEALTH AND WELL BEING” SDG 3: Ensure healthy lives and promote wellbeing for all at all ages The goals within a goal: Health targets for SDG 3 includes: 3.1) By 2030, reduce the global maternal mortality ratio to less than 70 per 100 000 live births. 3.2) By 2030, end preventable deaths of newborns and children under 5 years of age, with all countries aiming to reduce neonatal mortality to at least as low as 12 per 1000 live births and under-5 mortality to at least as low as 25 per 1000 live births. 3.3) By 2030, end the epidemics of AIDS, tuberculosis, malaria and neglected tropical diseases and combat hepatitis, water-borne diseases and other communicable diseases. 3.4) By 2030, reduce by one third premature mortality from non-communicable diseases through prevention and treatment and promote mental health and well-being. 3.5) Strengthen the prevention and treatment of substance abuse, including narcotic drug abuse and harmful use of alcohol. 3.6) By 2020, halve the number of global deaths and injuries from road traffic accidents. 3.7) By 2030, ensure universal access to sexual and reproductive health-care services, including for family planning, information and education, and the integration of reproductive health into national strategies and programs. 3.8) Achieve universal health coverage, including financial risk protection, access to quality essential health-care services and access to safe, effective, quality and affordable essential medicines and vaccines for all. 3.9) By 2030, substantially reduce the number of deaths and illnesses from hazardous chemicals and air, water and soil pollution and contamination. 3-A) Strengthen the implementation of the WHO Framework Convention on Tobacco Control in all countries, as appropriate. 3-B) Support the research and development of vaccines and medicines for the communicable and non-communicable diseases that primarily affect developing countries, provide access to affordable essential medicines and vaccines, in accordance with the Doha Declaration on the TRIPS Agreement and Public Health, which affirms the right of developing countries to use to the full the provisions in the Agreement on Trade-Related Aspects of Intellectual Property Rights regarding flexibilities to protect public health, and, in particular, provide access to medicines for all. 3-C) Substantially increase health financing and the recruitment, development, training and retention of the health workforce in developing countries, especially in least developed countries and small island developing States. 3-D) Strengthen the capacity of all countries, developing countries, for early warning, risk reduction and management of national and global health risks. After every 1 month, repairing of a vehicle is mandatory for its smooth functioning. Similarly, our body is a machine, disease and other factor may lead its breakdown and malfunctioning. So, it should be examined by optimizing good health. Life is a cycle which is sustained by good health and wellbeing. In my point of view “Health” is an essence, entirety, inevitable and an inseparable segment of life. So, what is your definition of health?
