Merit’s Hike for Motivation and Happiness

2000 hrs. and the notification pop up on the small AMOLED display “Sooner the Better”. That sentence was the last among other itinerary for the Hike starting in next 11 hrs. That was a plan made soon after an intra-team poll casted for the initiation of Merit’s Hike for Motivation and Happiness (MHMH) program by the core-team of Merit Pokhara. Out of all, only 11 of us became able to break-up with bed that dawn and two of the 11 were Misty and Jimmy, the heroes to survive horrors of their own street hurdles. We were destined to the newly build Lord Shiva’s Statue on top of Pumdi-Bhumdi hill enroute World Peace Pagoda. Sight-seeing wasn’t just the idea but to establish a healthy relation among our new and existing team members and enjoy the exploration of the frequently visited route by the lake side. They say “No short-cuts to success” but we’re seeking to have one that would take us through the fastest way out to the top. When we’ve a slight view of the mesmerizing Lake, who doesn’t want to view the full-size at first! The moment we crossed the forest and made it to the World Peace pagoda premises, we even got determined to make it higher; to the top of Pumdi-Bhumdi but then came a situation.

Coping with COVID By Students

After the imposition of lockdown, different sectors have been affected massively, the educational sector is no exception to this. The conduction of online classes is not effective to all of us. The problem exacerbates when we realize that several families run their daily affairs through day-to-day earnings. What would such families do, how could they sustain the education of their children? With high school drop out rate and children being pushed into child labor, this is surely going to be a long-term problem, why don’t we talk about it?

GBV During COVID-19

After the imposition of lockdown to control the spread of the pandemic instances of domestic violence have been on a rise across the country. This shows, during the covid 19 pandemic, the common directive from everyone to stay home and remain safe didn't work for several women as it added more complexities related to intra-home abuses. As per the data of Nepal Police, the complaints related to GBV has doubled since the COVID outbreak.

AIR POLLUTION IS NOT MY BUSINESS

When a vehicle emits more than permissible levels of smoke, we ignore it. Schools are closed due to the toxic atmosphere, we ignore it. Wildfires have blazed a massive percentage of forest and yet we are limited to show-off slogans but actions. The toxic atmosphere is already giving us a close call. The environment is constantly asking us to change our policies and actions. It is our business to save this planet before it's too late.
