May I have your attention, please! If a tree falls in the forest and there is nobody there to hear it. Did it ever really fall? If a hole forms in the ozone layer and there is nobody there to feel it. Did it ever really fall apart?
Namaste, Welcome to Nepal, I present to you the most polluting countries in the world. Shhhh! do not inhale, do not exhale. Because we know cigarette smoking is injurious to health.
Today in my country the quality of air is deteriorating, schools shut down and road accidents have increased.. On April 5, the highest level of air pollution was measured in Dhangadi i.e., AQI reached 429. Chitwan is in the second position with AQI 398. An AQI of 50 is considered healthy, 50 to 100 is considered moderate. When the AQI reaches 150, it’ll become unhealthy to certain age-sensitive groups. Reaching 200 is unhealthy for everyone. AQI 300 is considered risky and above 300 is considered fatal or most hazardous. It is estimated that an average rainfall of 60mm occurs in Nepal from November 16 to March 15. This time only 16mm rain occurred across the country. So, is it my business? Of course not. Because it is our business.
The causes of poor air quality are so common which includes usage of olld motor vehicles, poor road construction, forest-fires and so.. Furthermore, Nepal’s location between China and India means that the contaminants from both countries flood into Nepal and vice-versa. All of this contributes to significant levels of particulate matter (PM10), (PM2.5), and gaseous pollutants like ozone (O3), Nitrogen dioxide along with volatile organic compounds like benzene, carbon monoxide (CO), and Sulphur dioxide.
When a person throws plastic in the river in front of us, why do we turn a blind eye? When a vehicle emits more than permissible levels of smoke, why do we let it pass by? Wild-fires have ablaze a massive percentage of total forest occupied region and yet why are we limited to show-off slogans but actions? See, we are doing nothing. We still have no solution.
It is our business because if we all just continue minding our own business, then there might be no business after all. It is our business because this toxic atmosphere is already giving us a close call. The environment is constantly asking us to change our policy. It is our business to save this planet while we still have the time to do so.
So, what I’m trying to tell you is that, if a tree falls in the forest and there is nobody there to hear it. Did it ever really fall? Yes. When a hole forms in the ozone layer and there is nobody there to feel it. Did it ever really fall apart? Yes, Yes, and Yes. So please for once do not mind your own business!
The planet is for all of us and we cannot exist by ourselves. We will live well here if everything is green, beautiful, water is flowing, the air is pure. What we exhale, trees are inhaling. What the trees exhale, we are inhaling. There is a constant transaction going on. If we stop this process of breath for one minute. We understand that without transacting with the air around us, we cannot live for a minute. That’s why it is not my business, it is our business.
